Scholarly & Almetric Indicators In this session, participants will gain a familiarity of the various scholarly and almetric indicators that will be useful to assist faculty and researchers in showcasing their research. Higher-level practical examples will be demonstrated using a researcher's articles and the journal in which they published, as well as relevant databases that could be used to produce a portfolio of evidence-based metrics. The information presented will be useful at the faculty, departmental, college level, and for organizations such as pharmaceutical companies. It will also be useful to help researchers who are applying for immigration status, as well as tenure and/or promotion. Altmetrics can also be useful to compare the productivity of departments with peer or aspiring institutions. In industry, such metrics allow companies to assess the impact of their research and publications spending. Gaining this knowledge will help information professionals to offer additional services to their clientele. Smart Citations: All Citations Aren't Created Equal As part of the session, attendees will learn about how Scite has developed Smart Citations– citations that go beyond traditional citations by showing citation statements—the in-text sentences where references are used— the section they appear within the citing articles, and a classification indicating whether the paper provides supporting or contrasting evidence to the cited claim from the referenced work. Learn how this can be used to more reliably track impact.
