National Rural Transit Assistance Program (National RTAP) oversees two special libraries and implemented new Online Public Access Catalogs (OPACs) for both of them -- both within the past three years! While this transition may seem daunting, with careful planning, communication, and testing (and more testing), the results can be enormous for both the library and its users. This session provides recommendations for vendor selection and collaboration, transition from a legacy system to a new OPAC, opportunities for OPAC enhancements during the development and implementation stages, promoting the new system to end-users and providing training, and refinements based on post-launch user data and feedback.
